Description
Premium hand-processed USDA-certified organic California Poppy.
California Poppy is a very stemy plant and is usually sold as an herb (the entire plant ground up). We process this material and remove a large amount of unwanted material, including stems.
We have three variations of California Poppy available at this time.
Organic: Nice, clean, hand-processed material.
Hand-Harvested Organic: This is an outstanding herb leaf acquired directly from an organic farm that specializes in growing poppies.
Powder: This fantastic material is the powdered form of our Hand-Harvested Organic California Poppy.
The early Spanish settlers of California were said to be able to navigate their ships by the site of the California Poppy’s yellow and orange flowers lighting up the coastal hillsides. Which many believe led them to give the California Coast the nickname “land of fire” and the California Poppy the “cup of gold,” or “copa de oro” in Spanish.
California Poppy is said to have a history of being used in a diffusion to “possibly” assist in treating various conditions, including insomnia, bed-wetting (incontinence), anxiety and nervous tension. Eschscholzia Californica may also help relive some types of pain. More scientific study and research is needed to verify any claims regarding the effects of the California Poppy.
Botanical name: Eschscholzia Californica
Plant family: Papaveraceae
Also called: Golden Poppy, California Sunlight and Cup of Gold.
Identification
A perennial wildflower with highly dissected, feathery, blue-green, 1-3-inch-wide leaves that clasp its 1-2-foot stems. Its attractive solitary and long-stalked yellow and orange flowers with four petals and a dark orange base only open on sunny days.
Habitat
The California poppy, a wildflower native to and the official state flower of California, has now naturalized in many parts of the world. It prefers full sun and sandy, well-drained soils and is considered to be drought-tolerant.
Uses
California Poppy Tea
California poppy is a poor-tasting herb to smoke but a surprisingly mild-flavored tea.
Try starting out with 1 gram of California Poppy per 16 oz of water. Boil the leaf in the water for at least 7 minutes, allow it to cool, and strain out the remaining material. If you would like a stronger or weaker tea, you can increase or decrease the amount of leaf used and the amount of time it is boiled in small increments.
Smoking California Poppy
The California poppy is very poor-tasting when burned. However, because it is not necessarily harsh, it can be a nice addition to herbal smoking blends.
California Poppy Smudge
California poppy is used in smudging blends and can add a distinct aroma to the smoke. We are unaware of any historical or ritual use.
Herbal Supplement
California poppy is mainly used by natural health practitioners in diffusions or teas.
